NY: St Lawrence River, Picton Island, Submerged Power Cable
- Date Reported: Jul 13, 2020
- Reporter: Robert
- Source: User
- Description:
A submerged, unmarked, and uncharted power cable has been reported running approximately east-west across the cove on the southwest side of Picton Island on the St. Lawrence River in New York.
Mariners are cautioned that this cable is not currently shown on official NOAA charts for the Thousand Islands region. Anchoring in this cove, specifically near position N 44? 16.770' / W 076? 04.361', presents a high risk of snagging the utility line.
While National Grid has been notified of the hazard, no temporary marking buoy is currently on station. Mariners should exercise extreme caution and consider alternative anchorages in the vicinity of Grindstone Island or Potters Beach until the cable is properly charted or removed. To report an emergency or further cable strikes, you can contact National Grid at 800-867-5222 or Coast Guard Station Alexandria Bay at 315-482-2574.
- Lat / Lon: N 44° 16.770' / W 076° 04.361'
