    Pelican Island Causeway Bridge Safety Zone Date:


    Time: 7/13/23 2230 The Captain of the Port (COTP) Houston-Galveston is informing mariners of traffic management in the vicinity of the Pelican Island Causeway Drawbridge across Galveston Channel, mile 4.5 of the Galveston Channel, (GIWW mile 356.1) at Galveston, Texas arising from a barge allision and subsequent damage to the bridge structure and nearby structures.


    The Captain of the Port Houston-Galveston has established a safety zone on the navigable waters of the Galveston Channel extending out 50 yards on both sides of the Pelican Island Causeway Drawbridge. Transit of the safety zone is closed to all vessel traffic at this time.


    The U.S. Coast Guard will continue working with the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) as repairs of the bridge are conducted that affect the navigational safety of the waterway. Sector Houston-Galveston Waterways Management Division will issue future updates via Marine Safety Information Bulletin and through a Broadcast Notice to Mariners.


    Additional guidance regarding this hazard may be issued in the form of further Marine Safety Information Bulletins, Broadcast Notice to Mariners, or other forms as necessary.
