Hickory Island Channel - Livingstone Channel, Temp Regulated Navigation Area (RNA)

A temporary regulated navigation area is in effect beginning December 16, 2025, for the Livingstone Channel. In accordance with applicable U.S. and Canadian navigation regulations, both upbound and downbound traffic will be permitted in the channel subject to specific operating conditions.
Vessels are not permitted to meet or pass in the Livingstone Channel between the Livingstone Channel upper entrance light and the Bar Point Pier Light D33. Upbound vessels must report to MCTS Sarnia on VHF Channel 12 one hour prior to entering the normal one-way portion of the channel and again upon exiting that portion. Downbound vessels must include, in their normal reports to MCTS Sarnia at the Belle Isle Light calling-in point, an estimated time of arrival to the Livingstone Channel and must report again upon exit.
Downbound vessels reporting at the Grassy Island Light calling-in point in advance of the Livingstone Channel will normally have the right of way over upbound vessels that have not reported at the Detroit River Light. Ice and weather conditions, however, may require that upbound vessels clear the Livingstone Channel prior to downbound transits. MCTS Sarnia will prioritize traffic as necessary to resolve conflicts between upbound and downbound traffic.
The Amherstburg Channel remains open to navigation; however, mariners are advised that aids to navigation in that channel remain in an unmonitored status
