NY: Quantuck Canal - Moriches Bay, Long Island ICW, Dredging
- Date Reported: Feb 6, 2026
- Reporter: Waterway Guide Staff
- Source: USCG District 1
- Description:
From November 10, 2025, through March 15, 2026, dredging operations will be conducted seven days a week, 24 hours a day in Moriches Bay along the Long Island Intracoastal Waterway (ICW).
Dredging will take place along a defined section of the Long Island ICW, progressing continuously throughout the project period. Equipment on scene will include a dredge, an excavator barge, booster pumps, tugboats, and a skiff. Project vessels will monitor VHF-FM Channels 16 and 65, and a 60-minute advance notice will be required for any vessel movement requests.
A discharge pipeline will extend aft of the dredge to the disposal site. Submerged pipeline crossings will be marked with red and green navigation aids, including red and green lights, and the pipeline will also be marked with spar buoys and yellow flashing lights.
Mariners are urged to transit with caution, operate at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake, and maintain a safe distance from all dredging equipment, pipelines, and support vessels operating within Moriches Bay and the Long Island ICW.
