  • Reviews Summary

The reviews highlight a popular anchorage that offers a mix of advantages and challenges for boaters. Key points include:

    - Water Conditions: The anchorage features deep water (20-35 feet) with a strong current, which can test anchor stability. Reviewers emphasize the importance of ensuring a good anchor set due to reversing currents.
    - Protection: While the area is well-protected from wave action, it is exposed to wind. Some reviewers noted that it provides a peaceful environment, especially for stargazing and wildlife observation.
    - Flies and Local Activity: Many reviewers mentioned the presence of aggressive horse flies in summer and early morning disturbances from local fishing boats.
    - Scenic Beauty: The anchorage is described as gorgeous, with beautiful sunrises and a serene atmosphere, making it a pleasant stop for those traveling between Cape May and Chesapeake City.
    - Accessibility: The location serves as a convenient midpoint for transiting the Delaware Bay/River, though it may not be suitable for everyone due to the strong current and potential for disturbances.

Overall, the anchorage is recommended for those who can manage the conditions and appreciate its scenic and tranquil setting.

Deep water, strong current and exposed to wind. Thick mud bottom holds well, though. You will need screens in the summer months as the horse flies are relentless.

We stopped here for a night for a rest from getting bashed about in the Delaware Bay. Anchor set right away in 35 feet of water, just a bit of mud to wash away in the morning. It was windy, but perfectly protected from waves. The only downside was a handful of aggressive flies. Morning brought birdsong and a gorgeous sunrise, with just a few wakes from early local boats. A great, peaceful stop!

Absolutely GORGEOUS anchorage! Current is pretty strong but holding was excellent and anchor came up clean (except for a little aquatic vegetation). Local boats come past early in the morning heading out to work. Great spot for a night on the hook!

A good mid-point when transiting Delaware Bay/River between Cape May and the C&D. If you can get a good hook, you'll have a nice peaceful night. Our first time here, we got a solid set on the first try, the second time through, it took a couple tries. Make sure your anchor sets well. The reversing current here will test your connection to the bottom. Great spot to see stars and wildlife. Well-protected from wave action, but not wind. If you have no need to get ashore, and get a good hook, you will love this spot until the fishermen come by and wake you at first light. We enjoy this spot, but it may not be for everyone.

We drop the hook at 39°21’167 N 75°21’585. Depth 20- 30 feet. Good protection. Nice place.

For sailboats, slow boats and for protection from the weather, this is a much better and safer destination that others give it credit for. You just need a lot of rode to keep your anchor in place.

We anchor behind the island at the entrance but it is deep! We typically find a 25 to 35 MLW for dropping the hook. The island has a sandy beach for pet relief which is a requirement for us with a dog. The island will provide some protection from large ship wakes but not from local fishermen or crabbers going out early in the morning. Be prepared for strong current. The attraction of this anchorage is the location about half-way between Cape May and Chesapeake City. It's the only stopping over point available near the halfway point.
